August 11, 2023

PADEL TECH are delighted to announce that we have started work on the development of three premium quality padel courts at the Gleneagles Arena.

Since opening its doors in June 1924, Gleneagles has been one of Scotland’s most iconic hotels and sporting estates while with its ‘glorious playground of country pursuits and activities’ the hotel is reclaiming its place on the social calendar and further cementing its position as one of the leading properties and luxury hospitality brands in the world.

Work on the two All For Padel Panoramic doubles courts and a Pro singles court, which will be the first custom built singles padel court in Scotland, began on the morning of Monday, 31 st July. The Mondo Supercourt surfaced padel installations will further provide the market-leading synthetic turf system which offers maximum consistency in angular and vertical bounce, before and after impact with glass, which was created following collaboration with the World Padel Tour.

Reflecting on this hugely exciting development Padel Tech Managing Director Paul Ross, who is pictured above on location at the arena, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Gleneagles, which is one of the premium brands in Scotland and we are thrilled they have chosen to collaborate on this superb development with Padel Tech. The three AFP courts are the culmination of a combination of innovation, technology and a manufacturing process which uses only the highest quality materials.”

The internationally renowned arena had previously housed four indoor tennis courts which in the past had seen the likes of British tennis legends Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski tread the boards.

Now Padel Tech’s creation of these three visually striking ‘BLU BLUE’ championship standard padel courts is a testament to Gleneagles Director of Leisure, Colin Farndon’s, desire to position padel at the front and centre of the iconic resort’s leisure offering.

For Paul the development of Scotland’s first singles court is something he has found particularly invigorating, as he explained: “We are installing three padel courts with two being AFP Panoramic competition courts and the other an AFP Pro singles court which is six metres wide. I believe this will be the first singles court in Scotland, and wholly appropriate for this renowned venue, in that there may be guests who perhaps just want to enjoy padel together rather than make up a four.

“So the singles court is a standard 20 metres long but just six metres wide as it is very difficult to play singles across the width of a full doubles court. But with the six metre span you have the chance to return the ball and you get the work out and the angles aren’t quite as acute as they are on a wider court. In this respect I am confident this will provide extra enjoyment for Gleneagles guests and leisure members alike and very much look forward to the feedback we will get from what is a market leading development.”

It is hoped the three courts will be fully functional by the end of August and Paul has no doubt that they will fit perfectly with Gleneagles international reputation as a brand leader presenting Scotland’s highest-end leisure facilities.

Paul commented: “Colin Farndon has been an advocate of racket sports throughout his career and has very high standards in terms of the quality he requires at Gleneagles and we are happy to deliver exactly what he is looking for. Gleneagles was very keen to have competition quality courts and obviously surfacing and so we have opted for the Mondo Supercourt, which is used on the World Padel Tour. Our dedication to offering a premium service and product is the result of our commitment to quality and innovation.

In association with AFP Courts we work hard to offer quality services and tailored products, applying the technology and innovation that maximize results which will also provide a superb padel facility suited for all demographics be they female, male, junior padel players or more senior enthusiasts.

In this regard I have no doubt that this three-court AFP installation will provide a safe, high-quality playing system which offers the same level of performance and look enjoyed by champions while being user friendly for all.”

Gleneagles was voted as ‘Hotel of the Year’ at the 2022 Virtuoso Awards and was ranked among the best hotels in the world in the Condé Nast Traveler ‘Readers’ Choice Awards’ and Travel + Leisure ‘Top 500 Hotels’ list for 2023.
